Black Gold

Early days but the discovery of oil in possible large quantities under Surrey what should we do?

Get it out and use the money to get the UK books balanced, bonus could be jobs created locally, and make sure that the Nodding Donkeys needed are manufactured in the UK more jobs.

Leave it in the ground for the future generations. ?

Use the wealth to promote sustainable energy projects like tidal power ?

Your thoughts please. ?

Fracking is an emotive subject - I'm not for it but believe it will go ahead anyway .......

We really need to exploit this resource for as much political reasons as financial, as it is a real worry being so reliant on other states for our domestic fuel, particularly Russia.

Re: Black Gold

Close to my house in Hampshire there was a small oilfield with a couple of 'nodding donkeys', so I'm not too surprized that oil has also been discovered 'next door' in Surrey. I think that subject to protecting the environment, it should be extracted and the revenue raised used to develop renewable energy technology.

We can't go on discovering new oil reserves for ever.

Re: Black Gold

It will come out sooner or later, especially when oil becomes ever increasing in demand and there are profits to be made.

Sue I understood from the BBC news that the oil could be removed without the need for fracking but only a small amount of the total oil discovered is extractable

We can only use the oil once and it seems wise to me to use it to fund an alterative energy supply.
