The Momentous Question

I have hesitated to start this thread about one of the most vexatious problems of modern day living. It is a subject which in its momentous seriousness dwarfs other threads in this Serious Discussion Section and all I would ask is that you read the views of others and reply politely and be respectful of their opinions for this is a subject on which feelings can become heated.

So here is the problem when placing a new toilet roll in its holder should the end hang away from the wall and over the top of the roll or should the end hang next to the wall and under the bottom of the roll?

So which should it be against the wall or over the top?

Next to the wall!!! On a recent cruise I turned all the rolls round in all the toilets on board every time I visited them. It's got to be done, it's the law ...

Re: The Momentous Question

Now this one did cause us a few problems because I like the paper to hang down away from the wall and my husband likes it to hang against the wall. We solved the problem by getting a puppy who could reach the loo roll and kept pinching it just when you needed it (she didn't seem to mind which way it hung) so we just stand the roll on the cupboard next to the loo which is just too high for her and it has stopped any annoyance and peace reigns

Re: The Momentous Question

Definitely over the roll - I get really exasperated if I visit the smallest room and find the loo roll on the holder the wrong way round. Sometimes, people can 'soil' their own fingers (judging by some public loos I've seen plus a fair few children during my scouting years) so I'd rather that wasn't transferred to the wall - if the paper is hanging down loose and away from everything, it's much more hygienic.

Re: The Momentous Question

It HAS to be over the top. The otherway impedes smooth dispensing of the paper. It tears too easily... especially if it's a new roll.

I don't see how it makes a difference, either way....

Re: The Momentous Question

We don't have it hanging on the wall, we put each roll out as needed on a little velvet shelf beside the antique 22ct gold ashtray, slightly above the Connemara Marble throne.
