You're happy that kids go to university and treat it as a right of passage and don't actually get a job relating to their qualifications?
They finally leave uni and are too old to get an apprenticeship, and are over qualified to do labour intensive jobs?

I agree. Regarding your two points:

Homosexuality is nothing new. It has existed since time immemorial. What is new about it is the fact that it has been brought to the front of everyone's minds now by publicising human rights and claiming normality and equality. Teaching homosexuality and worse, encouraging it when it isn't necessarily innate in young minds, is unacceptable.

University used to be the accepted route for the academically most able. That is now claimed to be unfair on the majority and efforts are being made for the less able to participate in something they are not suited for. The consequence of this is a collection of Mickey Mouse degrees which are suitably easy for anyone to pass. The ultimate outcome is that such 'graduates' are not suitably qualified for any meaningful careers. Who started it? BLiar, of course.

Yes, society is certainly not going the right way. On the other hand, I'm not sure that is the fault of society at large.

The real culprits are the do-gooding equality brigade, inept politicians (of course) and greedy heads of third-rate universities which should never have morphed from productive technical colleges to pointless money-making so-called academic organisations.

Thanks JB, you've put it far more eloquently than I could have done....
Perhaps if our brave soldiers during two world wars would have been unsure as to their gender, the sound of 'Jackboots' on the Mall would quite possibly have been heard...

Yes I’d be quite happy for my grandchildren ( I don’t have any) to learn about the differences between peoples gender ect, perhaps it would make those future adults more tolerant and understanding of people so prejudice could finally be a thing of the past, I’m not sure students see universities as a right of passage, some maybe, I think they are possibly naive in thinking that their chosen course will lead to employment in that role, but sadly too many graduates are chasing the same jobs, apprenticeships would be great , but not everyone is suited to that type of work and there aren’t the manufacturing industries there once was, many factories ect are no longer there..

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing Primus....There are lots of young people growing up confused (and older ones if you count me) because in the past there wasn't the kind of exposure (pardon the pun) to gender doubt that there is today, and its only a result of publicity and the internet.

I don't believe we should be tolerant to this kind of mental illness, we should be sympathetic and try to help them, but it's turning into an epidemic and poisoning society because we are too tolerant. At the moment the percentage of people who are unsure of their gender is very small, but with the help of the media, normalising it, it is being classed as an option and it isn't.

Longdogs was looking for manifesto promises should we be candidates for election.
And these would be mine Primus. I would desperately like to see industry flourish once again in the UK. Hence my suggestion of university students who are more practically inclined be enlisted as apprentices rather than academic studies, industry cannot flourish without engineers, electricians, plumbers, bricklayers and joiners etc. I have nothing against foreign labour but why are there not so many British trained skilled workers anymore...? Perhaps we are training them with the wrong skills.....

We need to take back control of our own destiny, and leaving the EU would be a good start....
Sadly we will never be competitive on a global market, but we could keep companies small and family run once more and just produce for our own national market, we are a country of over 68 million souls, surely producing for our own market would keep our employment figures very healthy. If we stay too closely linked to the EU and other economies, when they go down, we go down with them....

I wonder whether that might be because we have already lost most of our skilled workmen over the years and there are not those examples present who would have encouraged their offspring to follow them into their trades.

Also, skilled workmen would offer apprenticeships to young people, but if they no longer exist that opportunity won't be there.

I agree, but I believe it may still be possible for us to be competitive in certain specialised fields. We are already one of the two very best designers and producers of aero engines in the world. That's it, though: specialism rather than mass production.

We certainly must avoid remaining tied to the EU once we are out for the reasons you state, as I'm sure they will sink after we have left. The 'givers' would have reduced in number whereas the 'takers' continue to increase.

Re: Your election promises!

I don’t think somebodys gender is a mental illness, it’s just how they are “ wired” at birth so to speak, and I don’t think they need sympathy, just understanding, and to live their lives as they please, children are remarkably resilient and seem to understand people’s differences weather gender, race or religion if it’s explained honestly to them, as for engineers/apprentices, yes there is a shortage, but not everyone wants or has the aptitude to be an electrician or plumber sadly, unfortunately the world is obsessed with money, venture capitalists tend to move in on companies with the sole intention of making money, sometimes it’s a good thing but if it all goes wrong they just move onto the next company and start again, many small businesses have been bought up this way and merged into larger companies I can’t see it changing.

No, not Royals - that should be the rule for the house of commons! It would at least be more entertaining to watch then.
