Re: Groundhog Day

It is being suggested in some quarters that Labour are thinking of abstaining from voting on the withdrawal bill in June .

This might give the the bill a chance of getting through parliament without Labour having to soil their hands on what is a very poor deal. Then, if there is an election Labour can distance themselves from any mess caused by an arrangement formulated by the EU and forced on us by May.

Re: Groundhog Day

I thought the plan was to give the Tories and May such a black eye by voting for the brexit party in the EU election was to stop her making her dodgy deal with the EU. What's changed?

Does the woman not read the papers or watch the TV news?

If her deal passes in june your newly elected mep's need not take their seats on july 2nd. The elections on may 23rd have then achieved nothing. Farage can go live somewhere on the continent, germany for instance with his wife and children who already live there. Olly robinson will go and live in belgium, jrm will take up domicile in ireland.

Re: Groundhog Day

Personally I sometimes think Mrs May is the only grown up in the Commons and her deal, however imperfect, really is the only deal on the table.

OK it's a compromise and has it's flaws but it delivers us out of the EU after a transition period with our independence, it would maintain many current trading partnerships imperative for businesses, and also keep in place many other mutually beneficial arrangements built up over four decades. For all of it's flaws the deal offers many advantages over leaving with no deal, which personally I believe would be disastrous for the economy.

It seems very popular to lay the entire blame for the fiasco aka Brexit at the door of the PM and to use her as a scapegoat, but every bickering MP trying to fight for their own particular narrow version of Brexit rather than being realistic and pragmatic also need to shoulder their share of the blame.

Time to get real on the deal next time around, for if not then whatever comes afterward you can guarantee can only be a damned sight worse...
