In the old days here some unscrupulous barmen would give you a pint that contained stale beer left behind from the night before, usually to a stray unsuspecting customer, never to a known regular, lose his custom if he tried it, the result was you would get a dose of the 'runs', this type of pint was known in Dublin as a Depth Charger, bombed the guts out of you, and you certainly never asked for one.
