Re: How long does beef take to defrost?

Normally it would be best to defrost in the fridge but in an emergency like this Azz you could put the mince into a waterproof plastic bag (make sure it's sealed), submerse the bag in a bowl of cold water, making sure it's covered (weighted down if necessary). Change the water with fresh cold water about every 15 - 20 mins ....... this way it should defrost in about an eighth of the time it would take in the fridge.

Do not use warm water!

I must emphasise though that the safest way is to defrost slowly in the fridge

I defrost stuff in the microwave. (On defrost.)
Mince I sometimes don`t bother to defrost as it thaws when being browned.

Re: How long does beef take to defrost?

Thanks guys. I already put it out on a plate in the lounge to defrost at room temp - it's still in it's sealed package.

I'm glad you can just defrost while browning so if it's not defrosted by then it should be by the time I'm done browning

If you have a fan oven put it in there and just switch the fan on an hour or maybe two should do it.

Cor stuff it Azz, shove it half frozen in a pan with some onions, after 8 mins or so add chopped carrots, other veg and blast it until cooked (10 mins), add some other veg and bit of gravy, simmer for half hour or so ..... lovely-jubbly
