Another phone scam!

I received a text on my mobile this morning and thought I would let you know that it is a scam. They said it was PayPal. I'm too savvy to press the link that was attached and instead phoned PayPal security on the landline, who confirmed that the text message was a fake.

Your PayPal has been temporarily locked. You have 36H to confirm the account information or your account will be closed. http:/paypal.co.uk.dssq.pw/m/

Paypal also said that they never send texts, only emails. And if they send an email, it will always be in your messages as well.

Just thought it best to let you know.

Re: Another phone scam!

Had the same sort of thing the other day.

"Some one has tried to access your Apple account so it has been locked please log in to get ban lifted"

Sent from some account in AUZ land.

Had a little giggle and deleted it.

Re: Another phone scam!

Thanks SG, I had an email the other day, saying:

Hello i'm a Hacker and I have noticed that you have been watching Porn Movies and if you don't want this to go viral then you have 48 hours to give me this amount of money.

I just deleted it.

Re: Another phone scam!

Your very welcome. It makes my heart sink to think that there are some out there that are so trusting they will innocently press the link and lose money.
I guess there will always be those vile beings out there looking for victims.

Just makes me so angry that people from a certain generation are still so trusting of others.

I received one of those PayPal notifications while I was on holiday -- and was using my ipad - thank goodness I did not respond to it - couldn't see why PayPal would be contacting me like that -- and Yes it was a Scammer I later found out.

The World We Live In!!

Also keep getting calls on my landline indicating they are calling from BT my provider and my internet is compromised - and to 'press' this number

NO WAY --- NEVER NEVER -- !!

I don't know why something cannot be done to prevent this type of scam - especially when so many elderly people who may also have cognitive difficulties are the target of this type of scum

Re: Another phone scam!

I get emails with the same sort of messages on my iPad about PayPal. I know immediately that they are a scam as l don’t have a PayPal account!

I still receive the fake emails from ‘Apple’ and the ‘Inland Revenue’. I have never received them via a text though.

I get calls on my iPhone that l don’t recognise the number, some are mobile numbers with 12 digits instead of the usual 11 digits. I usually google them to find lots of people get them too so l block the number.

Re: Another phone scam!

I treat everything of that nature as a scam, unless I have evidence proving it not to be so.

Thankfully never had anything to do with PayPal, if a supplier only has PayPal as the payment option I cancel the order and do it over the phone.

I've said it before and I'll repeat it here, the whizzo IT geeks are loosing the battle with the fraudsters.

You only need to watch the UK Bankers Association rep, answering questions from the Commons Select Committee on Banking, pathetic, they just don't know how to control this crime wave.
