Stay of execution
I was 'looking forward' to my eye operation (vitrectomy and peeling of epiretinal membrane) scheduled for tomorrow midday, when I received a telephone call from the eye hospital this morning. Due to an emergency admission, my operation has had to be cancelled. I have another appointment for next Thursday at 7.30 in the morning (eh?!).
Actually, I didn't feel any sense of relief as I was fully aware that the ordeal is yet to come! The operation will last for one to two hours and, although painless (or the earlier cataract operation was), there is always the nagging concern that something might go wrong. I am also worried that I shall sneeze at an inopportune moment (I seem to sneeze on a regular basis - every day without fail and without warning), and with
three needles in my eye the consequences don't bear thinking about.
I was advised to take Pred Forte eye drops four times a day for a week before my original appointment, and am concerned that the contents of the bottle may run out over the next week. I have had no success in asking the eye hospital staff for another prescription, and my GP cannot provide one without a letter from the hospital!
It's like banging your head against a wall, though of course I don't think such a thing would help much!
