Carriagemakers agreed and adopted a standard width to build towards.
When trains were developed, they tended to use the same skilled carriage builders, who were tooled up to follow their usual standard sizes.
This affected the agreed standard gauge for railways.
This affected the size of railway tunnels.
Size of rockets was partly designed to ensure that could be transported on trains, and thus limited to the size of tunnels.

Am sure that many of you will have had sleepless nights worrying about my daughter's driving plight!!She passed today. Car insured (to start on 10th June since putting random start dates into comparison sites can produce lower premiums..bit odd, hut hey ho)
She's going to me mighty careful from now one, which I guess is the point of the exercise.
