Excess pay?

Couple of "think tanks", Autonomy and High Pay Centre, are increasingly pushing for a maximum pay figure of between £100k to £300k irrespective of job or role.

Admittedly the pay of football players and some broadcasting household names surpasses all understanding and really should be addressed I fervently believe that the very idea of any limit on remuneration is totally WRONG.

Thoughts?

Re: Excess pay?

Please don't mention footballers. They have to have the grass cut at a certain height, play with soft plastic balls not the good old leather lace up ones. If they get a tap on the shoulder they roll up in extreme agony like big tarts.
Score a goal and they jump on each other, makes me wonder if they are actually men. Finally if they get a red card argue with the ref and the whole team join in. They get paid obscene amount of money for 90 minutes of running around chasing a ball.

You can stick football you know where

Re: Excess pay?

Since cash nowadays comes from some unknown place, it really does not matter who gets how much of it for doing whatever, and, it is very suspicious that there is no such thing as a pay packet anymore (my Cash comes neat).

But should there be a legal maximum wage across the board?

No cos it does not matter, it would not help anyone, or save anything, sometimes things have to be left to run riot, to get to a conclusion.

Re: Excess pay?

My understanding of it is that the brainy think tank is claiming that it will help redistribute wealth and allow funding for pay rises in the lower/middle income bracket whilst helping to protect against unemployment.

It doesn't follow that it'll work that way at all. It's la-la land stuff, like the idea of a universal income .... and all any 'ceiling' does is stifle the really ambitious.
They'd do better to hunt down and catch high earner tax dodgers.
