Re: Trade deals

Then there is the little (little?) matter of exported meats being halal or not. I believe that most/all NZ lamb is along with Australian and that a great deal (all?) beef is too.

That would put me off 100%, not because of the exsanguination which if performed in line with slaughter for the kosher market is probably painless despite the belief of those who object out of ignorance, but because slaughter for the halal market is VERY different where the rubber hits the road.
!
But no, in my worldl I want NOTHING to do with ANYTHING islamic and I suspect that I am in any way unique in this respect.

You have nothing to worry about, ALL animals slaughtered in Australia have to be stunned before slaughter by whatever method. It's the law.

Re: Trade deals

Australia have some of the highest hygiene and animals rights certifications in the world and has cattle that graze all year round instead of keeping them in barns during the winter, pumped with anti biotics.

All meat should be labelled with the method of slaughter as well. Just remember it was the UK that had to incinerate its herds because of BSE and the ban on meat exports has only just been lifted after around 15 years.

This is a huge opportunity for British farmers :

1. To increase farming in the UK for their domestic market and exports, reducing imported meat from the EU at the same time and increasing the UK self sufficiency in food and providing wider choice for consumers by importing from other countries.

2. Increase exports to the rest of the world, thereby creating more jobs in rural areas and economic benefits.

Just 2 examples.

It's not so much the barbaric slaughtering for the mohammadan market - and it is because ritual slaughter for the kosher market is very different - it's that I don't want to have ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING that has been tainted by islamic practices.

Re: Trade deals

Fois Gras is another example of disgusting farming practices allowed in the EU, France in particular and banned here.

Therein lies a bone of contention Bread. Any bull calf born in the UK is more likely than not to be slaughtered immediately because it's of NO VALUE to a dairy farmer who only wants heifers. It wouldn't really cost that much to rear bull calves on (after castration) for a few months then sell them into the meat markets. I know about this side of farming because the late father of a late friend of mine did exactly this on his small holding.

That's correct Percy, dairy farmers either slaughter bull calves for
veal, or sell them on for fattening to specialist beef farmers !
I know this because l was offered a bull calf for nothing by a
neighbouring dairy farmer once !!

Donkeyman! 👍👍
