Is feeling cold - old age related?

It is 20.5 ºc in this room but I feel cold, even wearing a cardigan over my T-shirt. My feet are seldom warm, I wear bedsocks most nights. I'm old, so is this normal?

Well, I would get checked by a doctor to make sure you are still in good health, but generally speaking the older we get, the less fat we have to insulate ourselves with, and our skin gets thinner too so we lose heat quicker than younger folk. But a wee M.O.T on your health wouldn't hurt, just for reassurance

Thank you Pixie, I was due an MOT in March but it like many other things it was delayed because of Covid. It shouldn't be long now - hopefully...

Oh I know, its been awful for so many people hasn't it? Just another thought too - I had thyroid problems, which caused cold hands and feet. Might be worth getting that checked out too

I kept reading this title as 'Is feeling Old age related?', to which my answer would be a definite yes.

Mr P never feels the cold either. He is always flinging open windows in Winter, and cannot sit for two minutes in a cafe or a shop, saying its far too warm. I am the complete opposite, I like to wrap up - even now at 17 degrees, I have a woolly jumper on

Re: Is feeling cold - old age related?

It may be sort of natural for me, the few times I've been in hospital I've been asked if my temperature is usually low.... Dunno - I never take my temperature.

Pixie Knuckles, I think my thyroid is okay but I'll mention it.

I have the same problem and wear two pullovers in the winter when the temperature only gets up to 20'.(I am wearing them now). At night I have woollen work socks (supplied by my ex employer) that I have cut down to wear in bed.

I have a Thyroid problem. I take Thyroxine every day for it, but still get cold feet & hands.

Oldbod, might be a good idea to get tested for Thyroid in case.
