Gobsmacked

I was watching a documentary related to the virus.
It showed Chinese women picking some sort of crop from bushes.
Suddenly one pulls out a nest and shows her fellow worker three tiny naked chicks.
She then proceeded to eat them one after the other, chewing and swallowing. She didn't offer to share.

I found this so horrifying I had to watch it twice more.

Eww, Xandra! That is horrific! The Chinese are not known for their refined food choices though, I must say. They eat absolutely anything

The Romans had some strange tastes too. Dormice in honey for one. But so did the Brits. One of the most horrid I encountered "first hand was " balut. Nasty. No way would I even try it.

That's horrible it would have made me cry, they seem an uncivilised race. I watch a programme called border force Australia and the stuff they try smuggle into Australia is horrendous and a serious threat to the country by bringing disease.

Re: Gobsmacked

They are a strange race with strange and some very nasty habits. There's a few families of them up here and they are also members of my Leisure Centre. I hate they noise they make, they are always talking very loudly and fast to each other in their own language. That doesn't bother me as I'm not interested in their conversation but I wish they would lower their voices.....A lot. I am not the only one who feels like this either as they looks they get from some of the other members. sheeeze.

Re: Gobsmacked

I wondered was she actually so hungry that any "food" would do, is the consumption of live uncooked small creatures a cultural thing and wouldn't it have tasted horrible? Though too tiny to have hard beaks and claws.

Re: Gobsmacked

My son went to China years ago. He emailed me photos of scorpions on sticks, rabbit heads, rats - all street food in China. This is where they eat dogs.....! Nothing is too horrible for them.

Am sure they'd find some our eating habits disgusting.

Re: Gobsmacked

Many cultures have odd eating habits including our own. I once went to a schoolfriends house for tea , they were having brains on toast or beans on toast. I didn't stay for either.

One person's horrible is another person's gourmet. That apart China is HUGE with marked differences between regions. To speak of "Chinese" is like speaking of European. Food? Varies tremendously place to place. My preferred is Sichuan style dishes.
