I've just come off the phone to the vet who was very apologetic for not calling yesterday, saying it was one of those days - he's given me his mobile number now in case of emergency.

He said that it's not as bad as he first thought (where he thought it was a common -more aggressive- cancer commonly found on the spleen) and that the chances of recovery are good if there is a clean removal of the tumour. However, he did say there was the added problem of where it is; very close/on the lumber muscle - where you wouldn't want to remove too much of that muscle. However we would need to do some imaging for a better idea of how big it is/where it has spread.

I asked him if it might be connected to a life-time of Epiphen, i.e the liver - but he said he doesn't think so. I also asked it it might be worth trying to wean Rocky of it now that he's getting older - and he said yes it's worth doing that anyway. So Rocky is now going to be on 1 tablet in the morning and 2 in the evening. We'll see how that goes for a few months.

I told him I was considering feeding Rocky RAW, and he thinks that's a good idea.

I asked him if he managed to get a look at it - how big was it, and he said from what he could see possibly around 12cm

We talked about options, and what he would recommend. He can operate and try to get it out, or, his preferred option would be to see a specialist. There are a number of options there and we've decided to go with his recommendation on which specialist to see.

I asked lots of other questions too, and ended with asking whether there are any questions I should have asked - but he said we covered pretty much everything. I think my second paragraph in this posts sums it up - it's not one of the nastiest of cancers, but where it is (and I guess the size) might be a problem. So it's not all bad news, but not overly great either.
