Alfie Boe... the new Jean ValJean in Les Mis is quite impressive.. but loved the original.. Colm Wilkinson.

Agree. I'm not sure if I like Alfie's singing. My favourite singer in the old musicals was Simon Bowman. He started in Are You Lonesome Tonight, and was also in M Saigon and L Mis.

the apogee of musical theatre.

Definitely 'Cabaret' with 'Sweeny Todd' a close second.

See I forgot that I took son, then a teen, to see the anniversary revival of Rocky Horror (come to think of it, that was advertised as having Jason Donovan also, and we arrived on a night off). And Little Shop (hence calling Audrey II 'Twoey'. And the other week watched a recording of a live show of Oklahoma with the luscious Hugh Jackman.
