That last one looks like the paw of a huge animal. Middle one I think is one of those trees that moves itself towards the nearest water supply but sending down those roots. We saw one like that in India but I've forgotten the name of it.

Those roots reminded me of this one, which I took in Italy. Not roots, but very interesting bark!

Interesting photos realspeed, especially the middle one. Where was it taken?

I came across this case of root versus wall. It just shows that compromise is always possible:

The soil layer around here is very thin but this oak managed to grow directly into the rock. Needless to say strong winds bring down some trees that don't have deep roots. This one has since been cut down as it was on the edge of a footpath.
