Re: White Goods.

Again I ask, why do appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, breadmakers etc... have timers if they are unsafe?

Perhaps I have been fortunate not to have known anyone who has had a fire caused by an appliance. Most fires that I have heard of have been caused by things like people drying clothes over electric radiators, unattended grills/ frying pans etc...

As for being 'standard', building regulations evolve and any new wiring would have to comply with the latest practices. This possibly explains the new socket for your cooker, positioning of sockets, switches etc. However, they are not retrospective, so existing wiring does not have to be updated as long as it is safe.

I love when we give examples we know personally they are ignored. Makes me wonder why I bother sometimes.

Yes it's becoming common knowledge really, I have heard many people talking about it even the chap who installed our cooker was telling me about cases.

Me too! It's like you're invisible sometimes! Anyway, I bought a Beko fridge freezer and cooker because it was all I could afford. Wish I hadn't ! The fridge sounds like a woman screaming in the woods when it's doing something, not sure what! The cooker has solid rings which I thought would be easy to clean - they're terrible and have gone rusty, you have to switch them off five minutes before needed in order for them to cool down and the grill switches on and off so it takes ages to cook anything! Wish I could change them but, can't afford to!

So the old adage still stands: buy cheap and bust? from time I have purchased a cheap hand tool to do a quick job - it invariably breaks but then I expect it to too!
