Its the roots I'm worried about and I haven't a clue on pruning them, me and pruning don't mix.Although must admit I love the purple ones.

The roots would be no problem-but pruning?-yes they do need a bit.

Lavatera is pretty/quick growing to hide water buts /shouldn't damage foundations/ cut right back in the autumn.
