He probably wasn't in any immediate danger but it's not an example of good parenting or guardianing (is there such a word?). The fact that the boy was allowed to lay all over the ground shows that the bloke is an idiot.

I once pulled a toddler up hard from the bottom by her hair as she was drowning in the gulf. The last thing I was thinking about whether or not some parent might react badly.Like they say here: In the Air Force you ask permission and then act. In the Navy you act and then ask for forgiveness.
My dad was in the Navy.
