If you refer to coming out of the closet, than I can't tell. But staying in the EU is much more complicated than exiting. By staying you have to find what it is that is the common ground, what binds you as human beings. You have to be able to respect the differences while sharing each others company. In many respects it is like a marriage. Sometimes the differences in temperament become only visible after a while. After 40 years now one partner gives up.
Parting is not always a bad thing, but is it possible to stay good friends after a divorce. In that sense too there is a similarity between exiting the EU and a divorce

So much so that the EU is more popular than ever and reform is the new buzzword as having now understood the consequences nobody else wants to leave

Re: Led By Donkeys

Of course it's more complicated to come out. Not because of politics or relationships but because our infrastructure is entirely geared towards EU systems and tariffs etc. To unpick the intricate strands of every connection with the EU is painstakingly difficult. You then have to decide how it will be going forward.

It's nothing like a divorce. If you must have a metaphor it's, more like trying to remove an inoperable benign tumour connected by an infinite number of blood vessels to various vital organs.

Once you have removed it you will be weak, disabled and need a lot of support to get better again. Crashing out is like leaving hospital on the day of the operation while you should be in ITU. It's of course easier to leave the tumour in as it's not killing us. It's causing some discomfort but we are still thriving and having a good life despite it. In fact the harm is more psychological due to worrying like a hypochondriac.

Being on the continent, I would approach your metaphor from the other side. The EU being the recovering patient that completely recuperates, after the UK is surgically removed. The part taken out cannot survive after surgery.
As the UK will have difficulty, but will also survive, the part taken out should be renamed in an organism that lives and thrives on a large body, but struggles when on its own.
