R.I.P. Gordon Banks

Ask someone to name a famous England goalkeeper and they will probably say Gordon Banks.

England's 1966 World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks has died aged 81.

Regarded as one of the game's greatest in his position, Banks was named Fifa goalkeeper of the year six times and earned 73 caps for England.

I was also sad to hear this, ,but was shocked to hear that he was 81, as I always picture him as he was when he made a lot of TV appearances.

That is very sad. He always came over as a very nice man with a lovely smiley face.
I was surprised at his age too and why was he never knighted?

Rest In Peace, Gordon, you were a true hero.

Yes, those were the days. He was from the time when footie was footie - the times when I was interested in football.

They were saying on the news he sold some of his stuff to help his daughter out.
The reporter mentioned about today's ball kickers and what they earn nowadays compared to those days. Today's lot wouldn't know what it's like to have to find money like GB did to help his daughter out.

I remember that Pele save!
I wish I could say genuinely from memory
But (at age 4) most likely the 100,000s of replays over the years

I had two older brothers obsessed with football
And I do remember them telling me how incredible it was!
