Happy Birthday to the 'New Pence'.

48 years old today.
Born 15 Feb 1971.
not new anymore but still going strong, as long as Tesco etc... have fantastic offers at only 99p.

I remember the bloke in our corner shop refused to accept the new money on the day but his wife soon made him see the error of his ways.

I remember it well when the weird new money took over. It didn't take us kids very long to get used to it though. I seem to remember prices going up overnight.

I distinctly remember being with my mum, buying her bread for the first time with the new money
She, like most of the customers, was just staring mesmerized at the coins in her change

I remember trying to explain it to my grandmother, she thought she would never get to grips with it, but she did.

We were street urchins and always bought stuff from the green grocers like coconuts, cherries and Pomegranates, I suppose it could have been a chocolate hammer instead.
