That's right, we did. The shilling was treated as 5p. The new 5p coins looked much the same as the shilling.
There were also new half-pennies as well. Can't remember when they were phased out.
I think florins were treated as 10p pieces, but I can't quite remember. Edit....yes..see below..
I stick all my 1p coins into a piggy bank now, and once in a blue moon I count them out and take them to the bank. It takes ages and you don't get very much! After all, it takes a hundred of them to make just a pound!

I'd forgotten, but we'd had the new 5, 10 and 50p coins since 1968 and 1969 already! Alongside the shillings, florins and ten-bob notes.
