What's in a name.

I mean no offence, but I struggle with posts using real names rather than group names. What's the point of having user names if they're ignored in favour of real names. I have to keep looking up profiles. I repeat, no offence intended, just a personal niggle. I suppose in time I'll remember who is Victor & who is Vivian, Victoria & Vivien

No offence taken here Robert. I do understand what you mean, and I am as guilty as the rest. Off the forum I'm Jan..only my mother called me by my full name..usually with an after it
I too often have to look up profiles..'cos I can't remember their real names

Re: What's in a name.

Hi Robert people often have a user name to maintain a degree of anonymity. However I figure if people post their real name in their profiles they don't mind people knowing what it is and using it .

In many instances I prefer to use a persons real name rather than their username because we are all mature adults here not teenagers and it feels more appropriate .

I'm also on a "Friends reunited" site where everyone uses their real names all the time and, as far as I know, it hasn't caused anyone any problems.

I find it a lot easier to use real names, of course if the person objects to this then I'll put down the full user name even if it's 'Thetiniestsparrowintheforest', believe it or not but thats the user name of a Lady on my local forum.

Re: What's in a name.

I think when we join a forum we are sometimes rather wary of the unknown, and perhaps that is why we sometimes use such strange nom de plumes, but after a while when we find that the folks are pretty much OK and mostly genuine, then we sometimes regret it and would like to revert to our real names. To be honest I regret using "plantman" on this forum now and much prefer to be called Barry. I also much prefer to use other's real names if it is on their profile, as I now regard most of you as friends rather than mere penpals...

Re: What's in a name.

When I joined here I was asked to register a username so I used one that I have used for many years, viz Robert Junior on other sites. On Friends Reunited I use my real name.

Re: What's in a name.

I used clumsy because I was clumsy enough to trip and smash my arm and shoulder shortly before I joined (I still don't know how I managed to do so much damage on one little trip !). Loretta is my real middle name, my first name is too embarrassing to put, someone must have had a real sense of humour.
