Put it this way, if nothing changes and we leave with no deal, then the Republic of Ireland becomes a satellite of the EU with all goods coming in and out, controlled by the UK.
If they move the customs checks out of Ireland to (say) France then Ireland is no longer part of the single market.
Or... they move the movement of goods from EU mainland to the ports of Ireland - in which case, this adds much more cost to bring in new ports, transport, infrastructure etc etc. The French will be more than happy with this arrangement

Even boris should be able to deliver, considering he needs to do absolutely nothing. It is set in international law that you are out.If he does nothing there will be a vote of no confidence, the resignation of Sir Alan Duncan today is the start.
