Foreign office cock up?

Did the foreign office make a mistake when they arrested
the Iranian tanker ?? with all the complications it has now
caused! I suppose they wanted to keep in with our good
friends the usa?
But why could'nt they just prevent the Iranian tanker from
entering the Med, and just send it back into the Atlantic,
instead of arresting it??
This would have decreased the level of provocation and
Indignation caused to the lranians without letting them
break any sanctions imposed upon them??
What are your views?

My view is that the USA is determined to stop Iran from funding nuclear arms work.

I think they are right to do so.

I, also, think that we need to support the USA, in this plan, as Iran seems to be hell bent on building it's Nuclear capability.

This is not our fight.

A deal was struck between Iran and the USA and EU.

It was monitored by an International Independent Body.

Iran stuck to the deal.

Trump cancelled the deal and put sanctions on Iran.

Iran responded by upping production.

We, the UK, seized an Iranian Tanker 2000 miles and 6 days away from it's supposed destination in Syria.

We had no proof it was sanction busting.

Can you imagine the uproar if Iran had seized one of our tankers 2000 miles away in International waters, or an American one?

Iran has retaliated by seizing two of our tankers just off their coastline.

We are unable to protect our tankers in the Gulf so have had to advise them not to go there.

This has seriously damaged our shipping industry, lost contracts being taken over by American and EU Shipping Companies.

We have made an enemy of a Country which has not been a threat to us for decades.

Utter stupidity and things could escalate further.

Trump says jump and we say how high.

Have we not learnt any lessons about getting involved in the Middle East?

The tanker was suspected of taking oil to Syria in contravention of rulings made by the Interntaional Community .
I don't know what to think .

I'd trust them as far as I could throw them.
Wasn't there speculation they were still doing it in secret? - that I'd believe.

I vquestion why we had to seize the tanker at all Muddy?
As l said in my post, it could have been diverted from
the mediterranean to sail elsewhere??

They are Shia, not Sunni.

We have been working with them to wipe out ISIS, they have put troops on the ground to destroy them.

We have a common enemy, fundamentalist Muslims, Saudi and those who support them.

Yes they hate Israel, but so what, not our fight.

I am no longer in the loop, just my view.

They are decades away from having a Nuclear Weapon which could hit the UK.

Absolutely no threat to the UK at all.

They do however have the capability to wipe out our Naval Vessels in the Gulf and our new Aircraft Carriers in the Med.

Not something I want to see.
