Re: I've been done!!!!!!

Did you get an email from PayPal? I am being bombarded with them just now, I know it's not PayPal as there is a link in the email asking me to click on it to take me to the Site to alter something or other. Those Emails are from Hackers and if you innocently clicked on the link and answered, then that's how they got your details I'm afraid. I know that Paypal will never give you a link to use....They will always tell you to go to the Site in your normal way. These emails are so real and you do think they are from Paypal, but they're not. It's the same with Banks ect, none will give a link.
It's a horrid thing to have happened to you and at this time, I'm really sorry it's happened.

Hello Roxy nice to see you
Good advice, and to say Paypal also address you by name, these bogus emails don't.
I just delete any Paypal email now.

Any dodgy emails that make it through my spam filter are forwarded to:-

https://reportlite.actionfraud.polic...ookieSupport=1

and then deleted.

Re: I've been done!!!!!!

I never follow up emails from Paypal! I have them often but take no notice. I must have just had a rogue transaction when doing the donation on that Sunday. In future, I will NOT use a debit card to buy things on line. I will wait till I can get a pound sterling cash card, and use that. Once stung...!

Re: I've been done!!!!!!

Getting sick of trying to sort this mess out. The bank re-credited the 3 earlier fraudulent transactions, but not the two Tesco ones. But, Tesco have re-credited me with £8.85, nowhere NEAR the £176.17 that was taken out!

I phoned the bank this evening as they were supposed to be calling me to update, and the first adviser advised me to call the Tesco store (Leicester) and speak to them. I go through to someone who asked a manager and he came back and said they couldn't discuss my case due to Data Protection. Even if I called the offices on Monday they still wouldn't. He said only the police or the bank could talk to them.

I got back to the bank, pissed off by this time. Spoke to someone different who said something like, have you taken something back to Tesco for a refund? I retorted, I've never ever been to Leicester! And stressed, they are both frauds. So, she's passing this on to their Fraud Team who are supposedly calling me in the morning. Costing me time and probably money, so whatever happens I lose out!

Thanks, you robbing bastards. If I ever get my hands on you....

I am so sorry this has happened to you and Rox is right, but for the life of me I don't understand why people buy online and actually trust the internet with their banking details.

I get emails at work purportedly from E-bay and PayPal to say that if I don't upgrade my details by following "this" link, then my account will be closed. Fine by me, as I've never been a member, so I know it's just Spam. I get them from Clydesdale Bank and other sources as well. I don't get any Spam at home, none whatsoever, as I have a good Spam Blocker.

Make sure you have a good Anti-virus and an Antispyware on your computer, and run them regularly (at least once a month if not more). Keep your computers safe, folks, and your bank details.

Re: I've been done!!!!!!

I was billed by PayPal, through the mail and via the debt collection company they also own, for a very large amount of money I had never spent.

After weeks of stress and anger I finally discovered they give all bad debts to this company (situated in Singapore) and the company trawls for any emails which are similar to the one who has the debt and then sends out bills on the chance it is the correct email address. So that company has every Paypal email address in its files.

I beat them in the end but it was slow, stressful and highly annoying. The email address they were looking for turned out to be in America. I don't use them any more.

Re: I've been done!!!!!!

If you are going to do online banking then you really need to know what you are doing with regard to keeping your computer free from dodgy software and insecurities. If online banking or ordering is something you do regularly I would suggest keeping more that one computer if you are the type that likes to open all sorts of sites *cough*, especially porn sites, or you download stuff from dubious sources as doing so could well end up with your system being compromised.

Periodically I get a laptop from my family members saying it is running slow or popups are showing where they shouldn't, strange searches and lost home pages etc. Their computer has been well and truly hacked and I have to spend quite a bit of time removing trojans and viruses etc. Some of these have cleverly bypassed the resident anitivirus. No way should these family members use their laptop for online ordering as it just wouldn't be safe whereas if they had a 'clean' laptop that is well protected and left alone, unless used for offline purposes such as word processing, everything should, or in all probability, be fine for them to be used to do online business.

I have been ordering goods online for years and have never had any problem *touch wood*.

I keep good anti virus suites on all my computers (desktop, laptop, netbook). And they are always updated and scanned. I will stress again, I never open links in emails: I know the scams used. Also, as said earlier, I believe the hacking originated from my Paypal donation on the Sunday. I don't use outside ATMs.

My online purchases are mainly iTunes (apps) and Amazon (Kindle books). Occasionally I pay my leccy bill through the secure site. There is also an account with National Lottery but not used any more.

As predicted by me, the bank didn't return my call as expected on Saturday, so as far as I know, I am still over £175 down while they investigate with Tescos.

And again, as I said earlier, I am going to use a pre loaded cash card for online purchases. I'm not risking my hard earned cash again, even if I have to pay fees on the card. But I can withdraw the cash before penalty kicks in anyway.

Oh Mark, I downloaded the Malwarebytes onto the desktop, but it is a trial version, now expired. Later on, when I have more time, I will try to download full versions on to desk/lap tops.
