Does a Member's Avatar influence your perception of them

...well does it, or do you see it as merely 'a picture of choice'

Re: Does a Member's Avatar influence your perception of them

I love seeing everyones avatars..I often change mine to allsorts I hate sticking with the same one all the time, one day I might feel like being a Witch next day I might want to be a flying dog lol or a swimming pig...

I dont see an avatar and think that person isnt nice or that person must be sexy or that person is whatever just because of a pic theyve decided to use.Its a very personal thing choosing your avatar
Well I should say to me it is personal..

I believe it must influence you to a certain extent, yes.

On A N Other site there was a person I exchanged posts with a few times, often about TV programmes, but other things too, seemed pleasant enough, avatar was of a tallish man wearing glasses, kind of studious looking, and a woman at his shoulder beside him, maybe older. Anyway I assumed it was a photo of him, the poster. Then one day I used the word 'he' when I was referring to one of his posts....holy shit, all hell broke loose!! Turns out this was a female poster, I suppose she was the other figure in the photo!!!!! Maybe it was a photo of her with her son?? Or a younger partner? Heaven knows.
Hardly a hanging offence, but she was so bloody rude and spiteful to me, publicly, I left the site without a backward glance, didn't even bother to respond to such an unwarranted tirade!!

So yes avatars do influence how you perceive someone!!!

Wow Ruthio that was bad. I would have said something though.
You cant be sure who you are talking to if there are no hints there.
It was probably the woman on the photo who was seeing if anyone
was chatting her husband up.
Also a he is only a 's' away from a she
An avatar is not going to influence me against someone unless
its a rude one. I was on Skype last year and someone tried
to contact me who I didn't know and his avatar was a photo of
his whatnots. I was not amused.

I change mine often as I like to comment on some subject and
generally out of my over 5,000 photos find one that connects
to that post. I am a swank pot I think.

Me too. Yes they do influence me. Well that and their postings of course.

I'm not ashamed to show my face on my avatar and change it after a couple of years. I am me not a dog or cat or bird etc.

Oh yes, a avatar can speak volumes . On the last forum a guy put his togger on, it did not hang about for long however and was no great shakes.

It does sometimes .
Sexy sirens give me the perception the poster fancies themselves.
( Or are desperate to attract men )
Animals I like because I like animals !
