Orchids

These are some of the ones I mentioned last week, they grow in the bathroom.

This is a smaller one.

Lovely pics-my sister-in-law loves orchids-she has two or three of them-I know they're not, but the flowers on them look like silk-they are lovely

Re: Orchids

Those are lovely! This is one of my ascocendas in bloom this past winter. They're trickier to grow indoors than phalaeopsis; only last about 3 years with me, but I can't resist them; love the color. It lives in the bathroom too, in the cold weather and summers outdoors where it is now; hope it will bloom again!

Re: Orchids

Very pretty!

So would you recommend growing them in the bathroom for the humidity?

Re: Orchids

Orchids thrive on neglect, a window sill is good but don't let them sit in a draught, the steam from the shower helps mine but they do like an occasional misting if in a drier area.

And don't pick the leaves off if they look a bit brown, and leave the stalks on after they've finished flowering, and water them with warm water (not a lot) twice a week but only once in winter.

Re: Orchids

I keep mine in the kitchen and dining room and water them with water from my fish tank. Works beautifully. The phallanopsis moth orchids all flowered over Xmas.
