Update: I typed 'dying bonsai' into google and found out that it could be pot bound. I pulled it out of the pot and the roots were going round and round. I cut off all the long roots, my husband cut off the dead branches. Then I repotted it, watered it with fish tank water and put a plastic bag over it. I'll let you know how it does. I love the internet!
