Re: Devil's Bridge View
Broadfleet or Pilling Water Bridge Most probably a bridge was hereabouts in the mid-13th century, and certainly by 1652 one was recorded - wooden, and needing much repair and replacement. The current stone one was erected in two sections, one in 1783 and the second section in 1840. Originally a single channel, the idea being to carry a stronger flow to keep the channel clear. The wooden swing gates allow river water out, but prevent sea surges entering the drained marshes.
