... do film makers use american actresses for quintessential English parts?First we had Rene Zelweiger portraying Beatrix Potter as a simpering air head - which was far from the truth.
Now Anne Hathaway making a mockery of Jane Austen in 'Becoming Jane'.
Have we run out of capable English actresses or what ?
The only one that has done it successfully is Meryl Streep in 'The Iron Lady'

I think the American actresses and actors all like to have a ‘crack’ at playing the English historical characters to complete their resume by being able to say they’ve done their ‘arty’ thing, got it out of the way and now I can get back to making the real dough again, could also be a snobby thing so they can boast to their fellow actors when they go back home from the land of Shakespeare.One American actor was, to me anyway, the best take off an Irish country policeman’s accent I ever heard, it was John Voight as inspector Ned Kenny in ”The General” (1998) so good in fact I couldn’t believe it was the same actor.
