AS an aside, I think the thread title is a contradiction in terms

BUt , what do I know.
A man's man is still IMO one of those chauvinists ... a wannabe
and probably unpleasant.
In other words, NOT a rounded individual

I shall sleep on it

Would Clint Eastwood's character in 'Unforgiven' be an Alpha ?

Yes Robert you may well be correct.

Having googled more, I believe I was confusing the alpha male with the chauvinistic bully. No doubt many of us have experienced these in the work place and socially.

Still confused, because some of the traits listed could be associated with either.

Re: The 'so-called' Alpha Male ... or is it a silly child ?

Guess I should have said that I worked for a chap who was a bit of both ... can you be a bit of both ?

Anyway, it was many years ago and this is probably why I find the whole thing so confusing.

He was ancient ! (in his mid thirties !!!) and very personable.
If you met him socially, you'd warm to him and think, initially, 'what a nice, easy-going chap'.

To work for or have any financial dealings with ... DREADFUL.

Hmmmmm ... he was never 'straight' about anything.

OK ... I think I've just answered my own question ... lol ... he was NOT an Alpha male
