A little competition

since being out of work i have obviously had problems with debts , its inevitable..Whoever most companies and organisations have been brilliant , they do a expeniture and work out with you how much you can afford and as long as you stick to it they will leave you alone ...However i have found 1 organisation who will not and dont want to help ...The Council..I cannot meet my council tax bill this month as the wife's company jas changed their pay structure ...we have asked or rather informed them it will be about 10 days late ..they will not listen , they will not accept that other bills are more important ie mortgage food fuel etc , I WAS INFORMED I WOULD GET A COURT SUMMONS IF IT WAS NOT PAID IN 7 DAYS...guess what i said ???? answers on a post card please
seriously they are like this government unfair and cruel ...

PS I have applied for 20 jobs this year ...guess how many acknowledgements or replies I have received ... yup Zero

Phone them and offer to pay something - it might help them to keep them off your back for a while......

we done that as soon as you go into arrears they jump on you ...they told me they CANNOT negotiate ..only the court can ..they employ scare tactics... last year i was 5 days late paying a bill because of a weekend i got a court summons ..it had crossed my payment ...i asked all the relevant questions then...most companies work on you disposable income after bills ..the council work on your money before bills ...

Hello Steve
My heart goes out to you, the council are so out of order !
Send them a cheque dated days off, that way you have intention to pay and they cant touch you then - bloomin gits !
Good thoughts are with you on the job front - wont be long now, hang on ........keep going ......

Re: A little competition

Many years ago, my local council changed the date of payment from after my pay day, to before it , thus wanting two payments from one pay month. I asked them to move the date but they refused.

So.... I wrote them a cheque and then checked to see when it was cashed. They didn't cash it for almost 3 weeks! After that, I just paid it when it was convenient for me - and nobody ever complained.

At least here, they give a choice of payment dates.

Re: A little competition

I wonder how long it takes your council to settle outstanding invoices.

Some years ago I needed a change of occupation, to that end I sent out my carefully written CV and polite letter. No result, so I then sent a load of totally ungrammatical letters and received answers to them all. This resulted in a temporary job pushing bits of plastic through a machine. I went mad after just one day and went car booting instead, much more fun. Which goes to show that it doesn't matter how willing you are, you cannot do just anything.

OMG I have been vindicated someone who understands the problems .....I have seen jobs advertised and thought I CAN DO THAT ..physically yes but mentally or emotionally no...I am not saying that I am To good for some jobs I am saying that some Jobs are not good enough for me ...To start a boring job and then fight myself to stick it is a battle i am scared of fighting. As i know me better than anyone I know what the result would be....last year I applied for a job as a refurbishment engineer ...which was testing and refurbishing factory returns of electrical good ..sounds good ...They gave me a 3-4 hour Job trial ...My job was refurbishing Telephones ...my Tools a duster and a bottle of Mr Sheen..After 2 hours my boredom was driving me mad ....actually it was a scam i didn't get paid and I never heard from them again ...they still advertise frequently for people....

Re: A little competition

You're completely right about some jobs not being "good enough", and it's no fun doing a job that you grow to loathe.

After 30 odd years in IT, I applied for all sorts of jobs, got quite a few interviews, but my background and previous salary seemed to deter quite a few prospective employers. So I dumbed down my applications and got a job as a school janitor / maintenance man. This largely ruined the respect I had for teachers, many of whom were wastes of space. The support staff, on the other hand, were generally far better qualified and more experienced. It was OK - It was salaried and had a final salary pension scheme and paid around £19k pa.
but lacked any intellectual challenge, so I packed it in.
