In my opinion no country in the UK can go it alone. United we stand, divided we fall.

Exactly Willow. It should be quite possible to keep individual regional identities, but the UK is relatively small and should remain together. It seems slightly ridiculous and uneconomic to me to carve the UK up into bits. After all I think we are mostly all of mixed backgrounds and heritage anyway.

United we are still falling. Successive Westminster governments have messed up things so badly it's not a surprize that the UK countries would like to try going it alone.

On a general point, people are more mobile than ever. Some people may choose to live in the same town all their lives, but more and more are prepared to seek out opportunities and form relationships in other parts of the world. I live in N.Scotland, but I'm an hour from my local airport from where I can fly to London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt etc.. and from there, anywhere in the world. I can keep in touch at any time with the internet, skype etc.., so mere distance is no barrier to moving.

So, if another country suits you better, I still say "go". I'm getting a bit long in the tooth to be learning new languages etc., but when I'm properly retired, I hope to spend a lot more time abroad. I think that people who don't travel and experience other countries are missing out 'big time'.

I think we are getting a North South divide, we in the North appear to miss out, many a person has said they would like us to govern ourselves.
London and the South seems to get preferential treatment, at the moment.

I have friends who lives in the NE (Sunderland) and they say they just feel forgotten by the government (any of them), that is so sad to feel that way. It does look like that though doesn't it - anything decent and it ends up in London with just a few scraps thrown now and again to keep the plebs quiet for a while. Still, if everything is centralised, I guess it's inevitable that that is what will happen.
