And the scumbag 'nasty party' Government said they very carefully checked this company's paperwork !!!

Oh yeah ??? - another scumbag 'nasty party' Government lie !!!

"As with all contracts, we carefully vetted the company's commercial, technical and financial position in detail before making the award."

Re: Questions raised over ferry contract

Apparently this was not done by bidding and other contracts appear not to have been considered. Some answers needed IMO

Re: Questions raised over ferry contract

They might be a new company, as such, but I am firmly convinced they are definitely not 'novices' in this game. They've got form, and probably , ex merchant or ex RN. No one can be Marine Directors without qualifications. They have probably had massive experience through-out their working lives in the same area, and could even be an off shoot of one of the main freight companies.

I am finding it more and more difficult to understand why every tiny thing that the government embark on is now dissected, criticized and debunked by everyone who consistently try to drag everyone else down.
We are not experts in all fields, and it seems that all jump on the bandwagon.
Lets wait and see in Labour will manage to please all of the people all of the time, and in times of austerity because sure as eggs , austerity will be returning in the next few years.

You know I think it's because a) we have witnessed austerity and don't believe it was done fairly and b) we don't trust or believe our government any more.

Julie, I don't think we can believe any one of them anymore. Not one political figure. It's a sad state of affairs, but we have to believe in something, or we will go mad.
I believe we will survive and that's what I'm sticking with.. don't give a monkey's how we get there any longer.

I agree we will survive but I still feel a need to bring them to book for a lot of what they do. Times up as far as I am concerned.

Re: Questions raised over ferry contract

I think most ferries and large ships are leased or chartered anyway.

I don't think this is a bad idea at all. It means the government have a lot of flexibility what ships they use, when they use them and for how long as opposed to subcontracting a ferry company that only has a finite number of vessels (which are probably leased or chartered anyway - like most commercial aircraft)

Re: Questions raised over ferry contract

Well yes but main reason I am wondering what is going on is many of the larger companies didn't want the job because they said they don't have the ferries, they are physically different to get into that dock and most companies don't have ferries to fit. So why would a new company with no ferries at all manage to build so many in a few weeks ?

Re: Questions raised over ferry contract

How disgusting that are Gov gave this contract to a British Company instead to a French or Danish one.
