Conservatives historically selfdestruct over Europe

https://news.sky.com/story/theresa-m...wdown-11263136

With a bitterly divided government
With Labour now supporting a customs Union

With the EU rejecting the 3 baskets policy desired by May and the right

Where to from here ?

Whoops

Labour support a Customs Union
Mays desire for a 3 basket policy rejected by the EU

Conservatives bitterly divide as historically they always have over Europe with Soubry and the Conservative left supporting the CU

Where to from here in this shambles ?

Simply leave and go onto WTO rates, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

"Where to from here in this shambles?"

IMO it was always destined to be a shambles. Again IMO the best we can hope for to quote the article is -
"a Brexit in name but not in reality"

Re: Conservatives historically selfdestruct over Europe

Gordon Brown predicted a Brexit Crisis and another referendum I see today that such a scenario has statistically increased to 50/50
The problem brexit has is that a no deal exit was never a reality only a bargaining ploy
With that option now realistically gone Brexit sits firmly in the hands of the EU
May can state what is or is not acceptable! She can try to get concensus in a bitterly divided party
But even an agreed concensus comes down to what the EU will agree

This is really turning into “ only mad dogs and Englishmen venture into the Brexit sun
Sadly we will get severe burns the longer we stay in it

I agree it will end up as brexit in name only minus our rebates and ability to hold any power

It's only a problem and a shambles for Remainers who are wanting the negotiations to flounder and are looking for the merest of cracks to further their agenda of stopping Brexit.

We voted for Brexit and if the EU are determined to undermine that so be it. We leave anyway and we all suffer the consequences of their intransigence.

It's a great big headache for all of us whatever way we voted IMO. I do not think for one minute that what eventually comes out from the negotiations will be in the shape that anyone wanted.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face. "We" didn't vote for Brexit, you did and we'll all be suffering the consequences of the Brexiters intransigience, not the EU's.

There was never any possible good outcome to Brexit, yet still pursuing it relentlesly. May's "three baskets" is just another version of having our cake and eating it. You leave a club, you don't get to cherry pick which bits you keep.

Least worst outcome, "a Brexit in name but not in reality" and staying in the Customs Union, leaving us with an easier route back in. But we'll still have lost a lot and will be worse off in the future for it.

Are you asking me that question or someone else? Because you recently announced theatrically thay you were putting me on ignore.

If the question is directed at me then I'd say that GB is not a sentient unit that trotted along to the ballot box and voted Brexit.

GB has a population of approximately 66 million, of which I'm one, so it that sense I'm part of GB.

In the referendum, 17,410,742 voted leave, 16,141,241 to Remain so "GB" didn't vote leave, just a small majority of those who voted in the referendum.

I am very proud to say that while I am part of GB I am not part of the "we" who voted Brexit. The blame for Brexit lies entirely with those who voted for it. You Brexit, you fixit.
