Mine is on its plastic stand about a foot off the ground. I extended the guttering at one end to divert rain water directly into the water butt through a hole i made in the lid. No other gunk gets in apart from what may travel down with the water from the gutter. Once a year I empty it and wash it out.
I remember a while back, someone on here found something in their's, was it a frog or a fish or something?

The higher up you can locate the water butt the better the pressure will be. If you have a long hosepipe run or maybe some part of the garden is a bit higher than base of the water butt you won't get the water to flow.

It can get a bit tedious lugging watering cans around every day. My water butt is about the same height as Realspeed's and I have the outlet on an timer tap, so everyday the plants that need water are fed even if I forget of coarse just recently the water butts have been empty so I switch to tap water. Hope we get some rain soon because it's much better for the plants.

Re: Water Butt

My butt's bigger than your butt.

2500 litres of it (and there is another the same size down the bottom of the garden too)

No need to worry about the pressure I have a pump.
