Re: My Plums Have Red Maggots In Them. What Can I Do In The Future?
I've had a quick Google and really the only thing you can do is spray.Re: My Plums Have Red Maggots In Them. What Can I Do In The Future?
The plum sawfly attacks when the tree blossoms and has to be sprayed against at blossom drop, then the plum moth comes along early summer and lays it's eggs into the developing fruit which the maggots then burrow into and feed on. They say the best form of defence against this is feramone traps but really they are less than effective. Personally I've given up and taken my plum trees out all except an old greengage tree, which again has no fruit worth eating this year so I doubt that even that will survive the chain saw for another season...
