Inexpert Experts

So , you know those programs such as Impossible Engineering, in which a voice over explains what the item is all about?

It's the "experts" that they then clip to who provide additional "insight" that bug me.

They tend to use a variety of people with different skillsets and backgrounds who, despite some of them having not a single clue about the subject matter, rattle on about something or other (presumably from an autocue).

For example, just how much deep knowledge will a marine biologist or microbiologist or indeed the author of a book about Tudor England have on the subject of a rotting Nazi train track in Peru which is starting to fall down?

They might as well ask Mary Berry or Sooty.

Back to the O/P --- It seems that to many folk if someone on TV tells them something it must be true and from a legit source 'cos they must know the facts. It ranges from the News to how dung beetles manage to see where they're going.
