I don't think it is a virus. When I am very careful, it's fine but it happens when I get a bit sloppy.

Don't think so Ted although that does annoy me on my phone, so I have switched that off.

The laptop is in daily use, the touchpad is the best of the two. By the way is it a Windows machine or a Mac you have? If it's a Mac then it might be worth posting on the Apple forums website or even calling the Apple support helpline, they are very good if help is needed.
It could be that the touch pad is also larger than my old one.

So many possibilities, I reckon if it's under guarantee then persevere and give yourself some time to get used to it. Then if still having problems contact the seller under the guarantee and ask for information about what could be wrong. It could be that there are known touchpad problems, if so then they might offer a remedy in some way.

All I can suggest is that you water it down a bit more.

P.S. Pixie is right about probably a mouse will sort it though.
I had one without a wire on my old laptop and it just sat on the touch pad as I remember.
Failing that, if you use your laptop on a desk, or table, there will be a small space on the surface next to the machine won't there? It only takes up about as much space as a tea cup - or your beer mug.

I don't have words disappearing from the screen, I have them disappearing from my brain as I type. It's very disconcerting and most upsetting when it happens.

I started typing then ended up sitting on a different chair.... in the garden.
