Re: Blood tests

I'm 76 and up until a change of location and doctor's surgery, I did not have a problem; BUT since moving a problem suddenly occurred with two of the resident vampires. Then for my next appointment I met Beverly and she speared me in the right spot first time and since then I've always insisted on Bev, so for the past 3 spearings she has hit the right spot each time.
My conclusion is, some seem to have the knack of identifying the right spot and others do not.

That does seem to be the way LD. Same thing's happened to me.
One particular nurse couldn't get my blood at all, but nobody else has ever had a problem before, or since.
She bruised me terrible keep trying too.

Our practice nurse Jane is a star - not only does she do my tests painlessly, she gets the vein first time every time. She's a good laugh too.

You're lucky then Judd, I won't see that woman anymore. She made a right mess of my arm. That is twice she's hurt me, so she won't get a third chance.

Mine's the same, Julie a Yorkshire lass , took four tubes , left only the slightest mark.
I think it's a good indication if they're confident .

Re: Blood tests

Went to ASDA for a blood test this morning - what a fiasco. Finding the veins was easy and painless - problem was the veins were not parting with their contents! Took then three goes to collect 150ml.

Re: Blood tests

I have blood tests at least once a month, mainly for my iron levels (haemochromatosis) but additional tests seem routine nowadays. My experience with surgery nurses is typical - some make the tests hard work, others can do it with their eyes closed.

Additionally, I have to "dump" 500ml blood once a month to bring my iron levels down - the hospital nurses are specialists and usually find my vein but they use a "big" needle which is not just a "prick" but a "stab" - more than one or two attempts with that and I start to panic because I know they'll put the "twist" in .....

Re: Blood tests

Not been a problem for me and I've had many. Just checks to ensure that I'm alive and functioning more or less normally.

Re: Blood tests

No problem for me either. All done in seconds. A different story for my wife and daughter though.
