When I was in a trade union. the result of any show of hands was determined by the shop steward and was always carried regardless of the actual number of hands for or against. Blatant manipulation to get the result they thought it should be even if it wasn't so that they could justify the pursuit of any claims to management.

My experience too Juddy! But l only go back to the 1950's?
My granddad was striking 70yrs before that, before the
commies got involved! Legend had it that they were out for
over two years while working in the leather industry??

Do remember that as a young (19)boy Fords of Dagenham vote for a strike with a show of hands.

Photo taken then showed a voter putting up two hands.

Thank God for Maggie who made the unions more democratic after

When you are all standing there facing forward, there's no way you can see how many hands are up so they can just say what they like.

But everyone looks around to see how the others have voted. I've seen some blatant misuse of the show of hands voting system where the show of hands was clearly not the result that was claimed. Try raising a voice contesting the result and see where it gets you. You would be ousted out of the union and seeing as ours was a closed shop, you'd be out of a job also.

Are you referring back to that incident you had in the pub with the cowboy again?

Crikey, it really has disturbed you.
