Gee Margoletta, you sure took it far better than I would've

If someone made a long list like that about my country I'd be really p.o.'d & thought the person very ignorant for being such a thoughtless, callous jingoist!

Ironic really considering the French have had more success on the battlefield over a much longer period than either Britain or America.

Well I am British, but I have lived here a while, which I would not do if I disliked the French, and I am familiar with the attitude to the French that some Brits - and others - display.

Also some French people don't like us, either. 'Surely not?' I hear you cry, 'jag is so loveable and sweet?'

But I think the OP was just joking around, well, mostly!!!

I lived in Paris, Marseilles..and Perpignan...as a rule I got on with most French people...but after a few drinks, old gripes were aired.

e.g.We poisoned Napolean.

Another one was that we pushed French soldiers back into the sea on D-day and only rescued Brits!!

I tend to the Basil Fawlty view on this stuff ...'Don't mention the War!' But the "you rosbif's abandoned us at Dunkirk" issue has come up, and of course the sinking of the French fleet by Britain in 1940, at Mers-el-Kebir which cost nearly 1,300 French sailor's lives has always been a bit of a sticky issue...

Luckily for me Napoleon and the poisoned wallpaper has not been one that has come up...

I lodged with some ''pied noirs'' for a while..They had some stories to tell..as did the Algerians who had to leave Algeria with the French because they fought on their side..

When they arrived in France...they were treated worse than dogs..

I like: Pate de foie, Frgs legs, horse meat.

Think Champagne is too much over-rated as a 'sparkling' wine and detest snails!!!
