I did it long before we got the Internet, wandering around churches and local newspaper archives. It was very interesting.

One thing I did find was even if you thought you had a boring stay in one place family it was amazing who married in and where they came from. You may find those French ancestors even if you haven't yet.

I can't say I am particularly interested in my ancestors, although going back centuries, one of them is a historical figure if the stories are true.

Not me personally but one of my sisters has been doing it for several years. As far as I know she's back in the late 1700s just now. As Julie says it's certainly explaining a lot, AND......she's getting several shocks along the way..

Re: Traceing your family tree

I knew nothing about my ancestors, not even my grandparents, so started doing research into my family history and found it fascinating. I would spend many hours researching it, where they lived, what they did etc. I went back to the mid 1700s. I now have a folder full of details, as well birth and death certificates, which my children will inherit, so that they at least know their origins.

Re: Traceing your family tree

I’ve traced mine, and found some 'secrets' which surprised me. Just with my parents and sister were still here so I could talk about them.

I found it quite addictive, once I started.
