Re: 9/11

Thank you for the post, Muddy. I live in New York State, and was working in our community library when we were attacked. People were dazed, terrified, didn't know if and when another attack would come, nor what any of it meant.
We witnessed the horrifying event over and over for two weeks on TV, there was no normalcy to be had, and no sleep at night. What many outside of NY weren't aware of is a white powder substance was being mailed in envelopes to random people, thinking it was anthrax. Add that to the 9/11 event, and you have a fear of never being safe again.

I'm a very brave person, yet it shook my core. My job was to encourage community members to start living in normal days again, comforting families struck by this disaster, yet I had little faith in "normal" myself.

"Lest We Forget" is a tag for this day, yet most of us will never need that reminder.

We visited the memorial in 2009. I thought it would just be a case of walking around and taking a few pics. I am not normally moved by memorials. We both came away in tears.

It affects most people in the same way, Longs.

A friend wants to visit the site, so we have booked a day tour for the end of October. I am dreading it, but know it's important for her to see it. Once I see something, I cannot erase the image from my mind...ever. It will be a sad day for me, I hope it gives me some closure and peace, but I doubt it.

No, I doubt if any New Yorker around that day will ever get over it.

The skies over America were filled with huge circular contrails most of the day from planes on hold. I was concerned, but not worried. My emotion was rage.

By nightfall I had booked two separate flights for my family, and I pushed the school administration not to lock down our schools. I put the flag in the flagpole on the front porch and resolved not to take it down until the guilty parties were killed or captured.

There was no way I was going to give a millimeter or microsecond to subhumans in the form of fear or panic. Obviously, that is what they hoped for.

Captain Surfermom, came home after his rounds of flights a few days later. We both agreed that the most American thing he could do would be to keep flying. As a military reserve pilot, he was activated and went to war shortly afterward.

I flew the flag flew until Bin Laden was captured.

I think Right Now will confirm it was due to breathing in so much toxic fumes from burning fuel, dust etc that is causing these cancers
