I have been campaigning against this for about 25 yeas people used to think I was a crackpot !

I feel vindicated at last

It's like smoking how often as a child did I dread travelling on a bus or coach especially ( no upstairs for smokers ) or going to the cinema for fear of some fag freak lighting up next to me .

Progress at last .

Nail on the head summer. It's pointless banning plastic here if we are alone in doing it.

Re: Well done Waitrose !

Not the first as Morrisons is reviving traditional brown paper bags for loose fresh fruit and vegetables, in a move it says will prevent 150m small plastic bags from being used every year.

The paper bags are being rolled out from Monday and will be in all of the supermarket chain’s 493 stores by the end of the summer. Made from 100% recyclable paper, they have a see-though paper strip to help shoppers and staff identify the produce inside.

Maybe, maybe not. Sainsburys (my preferred supermarket) used to sell (interalia) Parsnips in a bag. a few weeks ago they stopped doing so and would only supply parsnips sold individually. However, if you ask for more than one (on a delivery) - guess what??? - they bring them wrapped in a plastic bag!!!

Fair dues Muddy, most supermarkets have made some progress in reducing plastic, but its tiny in comparison to what is needed.

Pressure should be put on to manufacturing to reduce even further and use more biodegradable products.

The damage to or marine and birdlife is a discrace, ive sen ball to often in the field.

Agree with what you are saying Nom but blame has to also lie at those that throw away indiscriminately.

For example I have seen this on our beach here and holiday makers just leave all their rubbish that then gets blown into the sea before the beach is cleaned. Although they now know it's wrong people should also be made resposible and answer for this
