They must be so distracting, as bad as smoking or eating your lunch while driving.

That's what I think but somehow all this logical stuff gets past those that make the laws.

That's why I'm glad that there is a 20mph speed limit and speed bumps in my area. There are 3 schools nearby and it can get quite busy. I dread the possibility of an accident.

With the best will in the world any hope of stopping people from using mobiles phones in cars is either to use an inhibitor or put more traffic police out there.

However you use a phone in a car it is a distraction as is chatting away to passengers

Chatting away to passengers isn't as much a distraction; there is that spacial unawareness chatting away on the phone which isn't there when people are nearby.

I actually find my satnav a distraction. I need it for unfamiliar places, but it does distract me.

Infuriating isn't it?

I still see this on a daily basis.
Quite often, the worst seem to be van & hgv drivers.

On my previous company we had to sack an apprentice, as he was simply unable to keep off his phone. All the engineers complained that while they were explaining something to him, or showing him something, every time they turned around he was glued to his phone and not listening.

Unfortunately a lot of people seem unable to do it without turning their head towards their passenger.

Yes, I see that too, along with the mothers trying stop the kids fighting in the back seat whilst driving too.

Or waving their arms about while explaining something.

Those smokers who hang their hands out of the window with a cig stuck between two fingers are also a constant irritation to me. It's bad enough that they're driving one-handed but you know damned well that they are going to chuck the cig into the road when they've finished with it.
