Gin

Hi

Do you drink It?

Are you a fan?

I can't stand the stuff myself, however there seems to be an upsurge in it's popularity and a whole range of " Craft Gins" on sale.

Re: Gin

I do like gin, but I'm trying to stay off alcohol at the moment for medical reasons.

Why is alcohol-free gin as expensive as alcoholic gin?

Even allowing for a smaller market, it doesn't seem to make sense. About 60% of the price of gin is the tax, I believe, but surely they don't tax alcohol-free gin?

I've not tried it, mark you, so I've no idea what it's like.
It might be worth a punt, even at the price it is.

Re: Gin

Hi Swimmy, Love my Gin & Tonic with 2 cubes of ice and a whole slice of Lemon. Has been my favourite tipple for years.
If ordering when out, I always insist on bottle of Shweppes Tonic and must pour it myself though as the bartenders seem to drown the Gin with the Tonic by pouring too much in. The same small bottle of Tonic is just the right amount to complete my drink when ordering another Gin. HIC!

I don't dislike it, but I can think of more agreeable drinks. Mothers Ruin, they call it.

Because excessive gin drinking in the 18thC cuased mothers to neglect their babies (in the Hogarth pictures), and caused impotence in men and sterility in women.
Also downing a pint of gin and sitting in a ferociously hot bath was meant to cause a miscarriage.

Re: Gin

I haven't drunk Gin since I was in my teens, except Sloe Gin which I have made every winter for many years.
