I take mine everywhere but even those you who don't probably carry a mobile phone capable of taking photographs.

I disagree Besoeker.
Keen photographers most likely always have a camera handy, but others don't.

As for mobiles, 'fraid not. I am not a 12 year old glued to mine every minute of the day.

Once time I saw something I was gardening, and another time I was doing a crossword at my Mum's house.

Like I said before, the unexpected shock or surprise if you prefer, doesn't allow time for rational thought. Time you fumbled about for a good shot, they'd have been long gone.

He continued to walk across the road right into the path of the A35 Austin van I was driving. I thought I was going to hit him and had to slow right down to about 10mph.

The man carried on walking right in front of my van but suddenly disappeared. He never reached the other side, my near side, of the street. I was also aware that he had no feet.

I didn't say a word to my wife, I just changed down to second gear and steadily drove on.

After about 200 yards my wife said to me, "Did you see a man crossing the road?"
"Yes", I said, "what happened to him?"
"I don't know" was her reply, "he just disappeared".

I was happy to realize that I wasn't seeing things. Such a weird experience.

Yes, I can perfectly understand that.
As I have been trying to explain to Besoeker, the last thing on your mind when it happens is looking for your mobile phone or camera - especially as you were driving at the time!
It is impossible to be constantly vigilant and ready.

I just said I have one didn't I. But I don't keep it with me 24/7 as I just explained.

It is such a waste of breath explaining anything, because you seem determined not to understand, and I am getting tired of repeating myself.

I'll leave you to it.

It's good when someone you know and trust backs up what you have seen.

Re: Why are ghosts normally Victorian or Edwardian?

When I started this thread, it wasn't to prove or disprove ghosts, I just wondered why we instantly think of the woman in white or grey as Art mentioned. I suppose it has a lot to do with the film industry and authors who love to write a good Victorian ghost story.

Glad to hear there are some mediaeval and Roman stories too and animals of course.

I wonder if you can get naked ghosts?
You wouldn't know what century they came from...

...or would you?

Naked ghosts Tessa? Mmm, doesn't bare thinking about. I suppose that depends on how much spirits you've been drinking.

I wouldn't mind someone like Marilyn Monroe haunting me in that way.
